Welding Safety Signs for Indian Manufacturing Workshops

By Super Admin ·

The Most Hazardous Craft in Manufacturing

Welding simultaneously exposes workers to UV radiation, infrared radiation, toxic fumes, electric shock, fire, compressed gases, noise, and burns. It is one of the most hazard-dense activities in any factory. Yet many welding workshops have minimal safety signage — perhaps one "Wear Goggles" sign at the entrance, and nothing else.

Radiation Hazards

  • "Warning: Arc Welding — UV and Infrared Radiation Hazard"
  • "Do Not Look at Arc Without Welding Shield"
  • "Welding Screen/Curtain Must Be Used" — to protect nearby workers from arc flash
  • Eye protection mandatory sign — specific to welding shade number requirement

Fume and Respiratory Hazards

  • "Welding Fume Hazard — Use Extraction or Respiratory Protection"
  • "Local Exhaust Ventilation — Ensure Fume Extraction is ON"
  • "Do Not Weld in Confined Spaces Without Ventilation and Gas Testing"
  • Specific fume hazard signs for stainless steel (chromium VI), galvanized metal (zinc), and manganese steel

Fire Prevention

  • "Hot Work Area — No Flammable Materials Within 10 Metres"
  • "Hot Work Permit Required" (for welding outside designated areas)
  • "Fire Extinguisher" location sign — within 5 metres of welding station
  • "Fire Watch Required for 30 Minutes After Hot Work"
  • "Check for Flammable Gases Before Welding on Tanks/Pipes"

Compressed Gas Cylinder Safety

  • "Gas Cylinders — Store Upright, Secure with Chain"
  • "Oxygen — No Oil or Grease"
  • "Acetylene — Store Away from Oxygen"
  • "Empty Cylinders" and "Full Cylinders" identification
  • "No Smoking / No Naked Flame Near Gas Storage"

PPE Requirements

  • "Full PPE Required: Welding Helmet, Leather Gloves, Leather Apron, Safety Boots"
  • "No Synthetic Clothing — Burns Risk"

Electrical Safety

  • "Welding Cables — Inspect for Damage Before Use"
  • "Do Not Weld on Wet Surfaces"
  • "Isolate Welding Machine Before Changing Electrode/Wire"
